Sony FX3 Features A7Siii Sensor in Pro Cinema Body

A7Siii Sensor Housed Inside Cinema Camera Body

Sony’s new full-frame sensor cinema camera, the Sony Alpha FX3, is an entry-level competitor, joining Sony’s full-frame cinema line-up consisting of the Sony Venice, FX9, and FX6.

The FX3’s 12.1MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor are capable of recording 4K120p and 2K240p internally at 10-bit 4:2:2, and can output 4K60p 16-bit raw video from the full-sized HDMI port.

The design of the camera is very similar to the A7Siii but with more video-centric buttons, and a more durable design, with multiple mounting points for accessories.

Sony claims that the compact and lightweight FX3 body was designed for hand-held shooting, gimbal, and drone-mounted work.

The FX3’s full-frame sensor, which is identical to the A7Siii, can shoot up to 409,600 ISO in extended mode, and has 15+ stops of dynamic range.

Sony’s new S-Cinetone color scince is available on the FX3, and provides wide latitude for color grading, without as much color correction needed as similar S-Log profiles.
