Panasonic DC-BS1H, Full-Frame Mirrorless Box-Style camera

Broadcast-Ready Full-Frame Camera

Hailed as the Panasonic S1H in a smaller, more video-centric housing, the BS1H is a broadcast and movie-making cinema camera using a smaller footprint.

Its full-frame 24MP sensor with Dual Native ISO and 14+ stops of dynamic range can capture an un-limited amount of HDR 6K video.

As its name suggests, the LUMIX BS1H is a versatile box-style camera that combines the cinema-quality video performance of the LUMIX S1H with an easy-to-deploy box-style profile.

Apple ProRes and Blackmagic Design RAW video formats are available through the BS1H’s HDMI port in various frame rates and resolutions. Each codec records to its respective recorder, for ProRes Raw the Atomos Ninja V and the Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR for Blackmagic Raw.

If recording in V-Log, a V-Log lut can be applied to view a normal Rec. 709 image during RAW output, “V-Log or V709 is selectable on the external monitor through SDI during RAW output. Shooting assist functions including V-Log View Assist, Luminance Spot Meter and Zebra Pattern can be used during RAW output.”

Variable frame rates, also known as over/under-cranked video is recordable as Cinema 4K/60p, with a minimum of 2 fps and maximum of 180 fps (in Full-HD).

Increased demand for live-streaming is met with the BS1H’s 4K 60p H.265 codec for IP streaming and social streaming over a wired LAN network. Panasonic claims that H.265 is half the bitrate of H.264, making 4K streaming possible over minimal bandwidth.

The BS1H has multiple I/O connections for professional usage, such as Genlock (BNC) and Timecode in/out (BNC). Other ports include a USB 3.1 Type-C, 3G-SDI (BNC), HDMI Type-A, and Ethernet (PoE+) connections.

When using Panasonic PC’s software, ‘LUMIX Tether,’ twelve sets of BS1H can be remotely controlled for a multi-cam production. Wireless control of the BS1H is also possible over Wifi and bluetooth.

Pricing for the camera body is US $3,499.99 and is expected to be available in November 2021.
